David Avnir is a Chemistry Professor (holding the Benjamin H. Birstein Chair in Chemistry) at the Institute of Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he received all his academic education, and where he is currently the Head of the Graduates Authority in the Experimental Sciences. His current scientific activities include organically doped metals, sol-gel organic hybrid materials and biomaterials, theoretical and experimental aspects of chirality, and theoretical studies in symmetry. He has co-authored more than 330 papers, and holds several key-patents in materials science. His publications have more than 13,000 citations, with an h citation index of 59. Co-founder of Sol-Gel Technologies, Inc. Recipient of the 2011 Israel Chemical Society Prize and Member of the Academia Europaea.
